Senior Information Fair

Connect with more than 40 vendors offering valuable information about services available for seniors in Topeka and Shawnee County at the Senior Information Fair Wed., Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Visit booths featuring a wide range of industries including housing, finance, legal, medical, leisure, care and services. The fair will be in Marvin Auditorium, as well as the library’s rotunda, front lobby, and the Edge Teen Room.

Representatives from the Kansas Department of Transportation, AAA of Kansas, Stormont Vail, and Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging will conduct vehicle safety checks on the east side of the library parking lot for any older adult drivers who would like their car to be inspected. This is a way to help older drivers find out how well they currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions they can take to improve their fit and to promote conversations about driver safety and community mobility. A proper fit in one’s personal vehicle can greatly increase not only the driver’s safety but also the safety of others.

While you’re here, be sure to check out some of the other resources the library has for older adults, including our large print books, as well as magnification devices available for checkout for those who have low vision. These are available in our Red Carpet room which is located in the Circulation Lobby, right next to the Customer Service Desk. Our Red Carpet Service also delivers library materials to those who are unable to come into the library, and we visit many long term care facilities, retirement facilities, and senior housing complexes around the Topeka and Shawnee County area, in addition to doing deliveries to those who are homebound. We also have our Senior Life series of programs every Monday afternoon which has topics of interest to seniors such as Medicare, caregiving, finance, housing, law, as well as fun activities such as games, crafts, and trivia. Stop by the Red Carpet room to get a schedule of events for upcoming months, or visit our senior events calendar to see what programs are coming up.
