Writing Workshop Examining Truth

Saturday, March 16, 2019 | 12:30-1:30pm | Marvin Auditorium 101B Adults

Melissa Fite Johnson will lead writers in an interactive workshop to examine honesty and truth in our writing, whether poetry or prose. Johnson's work is admired for its honest, hard-hitting examination of her own life. In this workshop, she will guide writers through examples of "slanting" the truth into art, engage writers with hands-on activities, and encourage sharing in a supportive setting. Writers will leave with activities to practice after the workshop. At 2pm Johnson will talk about her writing journey and share poems from her debut collection, While the Kettle's On, as well as the collaborative work Ghost Sign. Both are Kansas Notable Book Award winners. The reading will be followed by a Q&A.
