Public Services Specialist (Part-time) – Readers

We are looking for a self-motivated, quick thinking, assertive, technologically savvy individual who has excellent customer service skills and can interact positively with customers. In addition to helping customers find the information they need, you would have the opportunity to create learning experiences that introduce customers to new experiences and ideas or help them grow/develop their current interests/hobbies. We are looking for an individual who has:

- the desire to promote the services and collections of our library to the community
The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is a library committed to doing what matters most to our community, connecting our citizens with the information they want and need to live their best life.
Duties: The Specialist provides direct service support to customers for their information, reading and technology questions needs in person, over the phone and online. The Specialist will have opportunities to work independently as well as in a team planning and implementing environment.
Schedule: This is a part-time position that may work days, nights and some weekends.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of applicable customer service experience or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined relevant by the Library.
- Excellent customer service skills, experience with teamwork, excellent information search skills and strong public service orientation and fluency in a foreign language.
PAY & BENEFITS: Hourly rate begins at $17.80. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee’s expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
