The eye-opening history of The Court-Martial of Paul Revere

The Court-Martial of Paul ReverePaul Revere is best known from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem Paul Revere’s Ride, but much of the truth about Revere has been forgotten especially his court-martial. The Court-Martial of Paul Revere: A Son of Liberty and America’s Forgotten Military Disaster by Michael M. Greenburg is an account of Revere’s life and his role in the Penobscot Expedition during the Revolutionary War which turned into the worst naval disaster until Pearl Harbor.

With extensive notes Greenburg has meticulously created a vivid picture of Revere from his early involvement in protests against taxation to his service during the war and his court-martial. The book, though, goes beyond politics and examines his family and business and even touches on Revere’s temperament making one of the legends of the Revolution human.
