Weird and Wacky Festivals Oct-Nov

From comic books shows to chili cook-offs, fun fairs and festivals are held all across America. Whatever your interest, I’m sure someone, somewhere is celebrating it.

Joshua Tree Music Festival-Joshua Tree National Park, Oct 11-13

Deep in the Mojave Desert, at the entrance of the famed National Park, you’ll find this unique music festival.  All musical styles are represented, rock, folk, afro-punk.  Artists are on hand to create, yoga classes will be in session, and a Kidsville is on site to keep the young ones entertained.

Carolina Balloon Fest-Statesville, NC, Oct 18-2

Now in it’s 40th year, this event is sure to delight fans of all ages.  Hundreds of hot air ballons are take to the air in the mass ascension (Friday and Sunday) with the popular Balloon Glow on Saturday night.  Tethered balloon rides, food and music fill in the rest of the weekend.

World Championship Punkin Chunkin-Bridgeville, DE, Nov 1-3

What do you do with the pumpkins after Halloween?  If you were a competitive “punkin” thrower, you would head to this annual festival.  Punkins are propelled in different events: cannon, catapult, and human powered, with events for both children and adults.  Vendors and music fill in the fun.  Attend as a spectator of a participant (slots are filling fast!).
