I had the opportunity to visit Scotland a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with the place. The people are so friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the country boasts a rich history. There are so many things to see and do while vacationing there that planning can get a little daunting. I suggest researching the area by utilizing guide books and DVDs that are available at the library. The Castles of Scotland, Globetrekker’s Scotland, and Frommer’s Scotland are a few of the resources available to get you started.
One site that every traveler should plan to see while in Scotland is Loch Ness. The lake itself is huge. It’s black waters stretch about 23 miles long and is extremely deep. Even though it is notorious for its sea monster, Loch Ness is stunningly beautiful and offers so much to see. There are boat tours and bus tours available (many begin in Inverness, a larger city located a few miles North of the lake) and resorts, trails, and museums are also abundant in the area.
One of the best sites to see in this area is Urquhart Castle. The castle is now in ruins due to its violent past, but offers a rich history dating back to medieval times. It is a popular tourist destination, and therefore, admission can be a little high-priced. But with its picturesque views I highly recommend taking time out of your schedule to visit it.
