Teen Musicians Wanted

It’s a great time to be a young musician in Topeka!  There are awesome opportunities for all levels of voice and instrumental performers to show off their skills.

There will be an Open Mic Night in the Edge teen room at the public library on Wednesday, November 30 from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Performers aged twelve to eighteen are invited to share poetry, music, dance or comedy onstage in a fun and relaxed environment. Perfomances need to be PG-13 rated and not include bad language.

Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades can enter the Topeka Young Musician Awards for a chance to win a cash awards in Vocal, Piano and Instrumental categories. Performers need to fill out an entry form and submit a video file/CD to Midwest Musical Arts by 6 pm, January 15th, 2012.

Advanced performers in grades 9 through 12 have the opportunity to compete for the opportunity of soloing with the Topeka Symphony Orchestra in the Youth Talent Auditions. The application is due November 17, 2011.
