Welcome Sports Fans!

Hello Topeka sports fans!  I’m happy to say that this is the first post in our new sports blog here at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. It’s long overdue that we have some content for the tremendous sports fans in our community, and we want to highlight some of the outstanding resources and materials we have here at the library for the many different types of sports fans that are out there.  From the sports fanatic, to the moderate fan, I think we’ll have content here everyone can enjoy!

The contributing writers, at least initially, will be Paul Brennan – Collections Manager, Thad Hartman – Community Services Manager, as well as David Coleman and myself, who are both Public Services Specialists in the Red Carpet Department.  We are all avid sports fans, and hope to get you more acquainted with our sports collection here at the library, as well as sports events locally, state wide, and nationally.

Another goal is to make sure you know about any programs or speakers we have here at the library which would appeal to sports fans.  We have a few of those coming up, including our sports trivia event on Friday night, July 22 from 6:00-8:30, our Fantasy Football Strategies program featuring WIBW’s Bruce Steinbrock and Terry “The Freak” Blount on Saturday, August 13 from 2:00-4:00, and also the kickoff of our first fantasy football league, beginning with our Fantasy Football Draft which we will have here at the library on Thursday evening September 1 starting at 6:00.  You can register to participate in any of these programs at the Red Carpet Desk or by calling 580-4545.  We hope to have great turnouts at each of these events!

So check back each week for new content directed at our area sports fans.  We hope you enjoy it!
