Sports Trivia, Football, Fantasy Football…and More Football!

High School Football 2 - small picIf you’re a sports fan, the best time of the year is just around the corner, and the library has you all set for the new season.

First, you can come show off your sports knowledge at our annual Sports Trivia competition this Saturday, August 10 from 3:00-5:30! There will be 100 questions in 10 categories pulled from all over the sports world. Teams can have up to 8 people with prizes awarded to the top teams. The competition is in Marvin Auditorium 101C – doors open at 2:30. So come out and show us what you know!

And after you prove your sports knowledge, you can come back on Saturday August 17 for our “Let’s Talk Football” program featuring Topeka’s very own Fantasy Football “Freak” Terry Blount. You’ve probably heard Terry on WIBW radio with Jake Lebahn giving out fantasy football advice – and now is your opportunity to talk football with one of Topeka’s foremost gridiron experts. Not only will we be talking fantasy football with Terry, we’ll also be talking Chiefs, K-State, KU, and any other football topic you want to discuss.

Once Terry has whetted your appetite for football, and you’re geared up for the season to start, you’ll want to get signed up for the library’s Fantasy Football League. Our draft is Thursday, August 22 from 6:30-8:30 in the Hughes Room, and registration is required. Just send an email to nhohl@tscpl.org, call 580-4545, or stop by the Red Carpet Desk in the library. All experience levels are welcome, there’s no fee to play, and the league winner will take home a prize at the end of the season.  The last day to register for our league will be Sunday, August 18.

Football is here and we’ve got what you need to get into the season!

I'm the Red Carpet Librarian and work to bring lifelong support services to the Topeka and Shawnee County area through outreach and programming. I also am a sports enthusiast, work closely with the library's sports collection, and provide programming to engage the community's sports fans.

If you are a Fantasy Football Geek and I must confess I’m not. You would enjoy a new book titled “Fantasy Life” by Matthew Berry. He doesnt explain the phenomeon but he does offer the unaware some advice. Heard him on a interview on 810 a few weeks ago and he told some incredible stories about those who play the game..
