Fearless Predictions for the Year 2012

Happy New Years!!!  The turn of the calendar brings  much promise.  New Years Resolutions are made and two weeks later gyms will return to the regular attendance schedule, and cigarettes sales will go back to normal. Not being cynical just passing on what prior experience has brought me.   But the  New Year is also a time for predictions so this some of what I hope or predict will happen for the year 2012.

1.  Fun times will return to the “K”.  The Royals will be the surprise team of the year in Major League baseball.  They will stay in strong contention for most of the season until a post Labor Day swoon drops them out of contention.  Nonetheless the Boys in Blue will win 86 games.

2.  The Chiefs led by their new coach, Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin, and the return of Jamal Charles will rebound with a AFC West Title.  The Chiefs will win a playoff game for the 1st time in 18 seasons.

3.  Both KU and K-State will return to the NCAA tournament, with one of the teams making an exciting run to the Elite 8 of the NCAA tourney

4.  In their final season as members of the Big XII the Missouri Tigers will win both the regular and post season titles……But the Tigers will become the first ever #1 seed to lose to a 16 seed.

5.Bill Snyder will retire following a 8 and 4 season.  This time it will be for good.  Snyder’s handpicked successor will be Brent Venables, who finally comes back to Manhattan after a decade at Oklahoma.

6.  New Kansas football coach Charlie Weiss will have a promising first year going 7 and 5 and the Jayhawks will return to a bowl game.

7.  The NBA’s Miami Heat will again fail to win a promised championship.  At least one of the “Big Three” will miss most of the season due to injury.

8.  The BCS will again grab headlines when 3 teams finish the season with undefeated records.  Undaunted the masterminds behind the BCS will set a championship game between an undefeated team and a team with one loss.

9.  The Big East Conference again expand this time the league will actually invite a school from the eastern time zone to join the league.

10.  In  March the Kansas State Basketball Tournament will be held at Landon Arena.  I will first in line to buy a hot dog.

Enjoy these predictions, just dont bet your life savings on any or all of them coming true.

Dave of Coleman, you’re a realist & and optimist! I like that combination!

I would almost be able to stand an MU Big XII title just to see them be the first ever #1 seed to drop to a #16. Almost.
