Meet the author and learn about this fascinating book filled with over 800 photos of the 216 entries in the 8 Wonders of Kansas contests. Entry categories include Architecture, Art, Commerce, Cuisine, Customs, Geography, History, People, and the Overall 8 Wonders. Penner is also the director of the Kansas Sampler Foundation. Kansas Living History from Brown v. Board
Park rangers from Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Sitewill portray two figures from the history of the Monroe School in period costume: African American teacher Julia Roundtree and Board of Education member Chester Woodward will share stories and answer questions about segregation in Topeka’s public schools.

Kansas in Film
Join Tom Averill, author and Kansas scholar, for an afternoon of discussion about Kansas and its role in movies. Kansas has been a key state from the beginning of the movies, when early Westerns found their setting here. And Kansas has been a film location since the early 1950s with movies of Pioneering (Sarah, Plain and Tall) and the Small Town (Picnic), of Con Men (Paper Moon) and Crooks (In Cold Blood, of Science Fiction (A Boy and His Dog) and Horror (Carnival of Souls), of Comedy (Family Vacation) and Drama (The Learning Tree).

Come experience the pop culture of the 1940′s through song.  Radio was the mass media of the day where people tuned in to be entertained and informed.  We will provide a glimpse into the music people listened to during this era.  The story of this pivotal era in American history will be told through the music and the news of the day in this reproduction of a 1940′s radio show.
