Back by popular demand, the Movie on the Lawn series will feature films that will get you and your family dancing Thursday, September 27 and October 4 (rain date from Sept. 13) on the south side of the Statehouse lawn. Grab your blanket, lawn chairs and friends for some feel-good movies the whole family will enjoy. Movies start at approximately 7:30pm.
Movie on the Lawn provides a unique option to local entertainment and a new way to experience two movies that are as good today as they were decades ago, said Nancy Overmyer, Event Resources Manager and co-organizer of Movie on the Lawn.
Attendees are encouraged to bring friends and blankets to lay back and enjoy these movies (the Capitol discourages lawn chairs on the grass, but they are welcome on the sidewalk.)
Sept. 27 – Grease (1978) It’s love when a greaser falls for a good girl in this classic musical depicting young life and young love in the 1950s.
Sept. 13 Oct. 4 – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986) A chronicle of the events in the day of a rather magical 17-year-old who has an overwhelming urge to cut school one spring day and head for downtown Chicago with his girl and best friend to see the sights and experience a day of freedom.
This series is part of Top City Thursdays and is sponsored by Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 785 Magazine, Downtown Topeka, Inc., and Matthew W. Gassen.
