On Tuesday, July 10, 7-8:30pm, join Topeka Author Debra Guiou Stufflebean for a discussion of her newest book A French Huguenot Legacy, a novel based upon the author’s own heritage as a descendant of protestants who fled France in the 17th century in hopes of finding religious freedom in America. Debra Guiou Stufflebean is a master at writing family sagas. A common theme in all of her books is people overcoming adversity and being willing to stand up for their convictions. Debra began writing historical fiction in 2001 when she and husband Mike were innkeepers of the Historic Sage Inn southwest of Topeka, Kansas. Her first novel, Goodnight Mary Ann, is about the Sage family who arrive in Kansas before statehood and are abolitionists. Debra’s second novel, Untold Secrets, parallels the lives of five generations of women who overcome betrayal by finding an inner strength they didn’t realize they possessed. Her third novel, At this Time, In this Place, wrestles with the dilemma of falling in love with someone from a different culture and faith background. Debra’s most recent novel, A French Huguenot Legacy, published in October of 2011, is based upon the author’s own heritage as a descendant of protestants who fled from France in the 17th century in hopes of finding religious freedom in America.
