Begin the holiday season with an old-fashioned prairie evening Dec. 1 at 7pm in the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library’s Marvin Auditorium.
Learn about Laura Ingalls Wilder from Laura McLemore, a Wichita educator and re-enactor, who will be assisted by volunteers from Old Prairie Town in Ward-Meade Park. Hear about Laura’s travels, the toys and games which entertained the children, and Christmas traditions in simpler times. Laura’s Pa, fiddler Craig Yorke, will perform and Laura’s yummy gingerbread will be served.
This program is part of the library’s ongoing Read the Book, See the Show partnership with TCTA. It is also one of the last Kansas’ 150th programs to be held at the library.
As a Read the Book, See the Show program, view a skit by the cast of the Topeka Civic Theatre and Academy’s Youth. The upcoming production of A Little House Christmas is based on several stories from the Little House book collection. Tickets for the Dec. 9 through 18 show can be purchased beginning Nov. 29 through www.topekacivictheatre.com or call (785) 357-5211.
Note: The Dec. 1 horse-drawn wagon rides advertised in the Dec/Jan connectnow magazine have been cancelled.
