What do you geek? Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is launching its “Geek the Library” campaign during National Library Week, April 10-16, to highlight what people are passionate about and how the library supports their interests.

Geek the Library uses ‘geek’ as a verb and encourages the public to talk about what they “geek”—anything from engineering to superheroes to art.

Become a local celebrity by telling us what you geek. Come to the library April 12, 13 or 14 from 3-5 pm to have your photo taken in front of the Geek the Library backdrop. Photos will be posted on the library’s Flickr and Facebook pages. The public is welcome to post what they geek on our Facebook wall.

“This campaign is a great opportunity for people to interact and have their voices heard. Everyone has something they are really crazy about. The library plays a vital role in the community and this campaign will show people how to use the library to make an impact in their own lives, as well,” said Emily Scott, Communications and Marketing intern and “Head Geek.”

During the initial launch weeks, the goal is to get people interested and talking about what they geek. Participants will get the chance to enter drawings and grab stickers, bookmarks, bumper stickers, and other “geek” goods. Flyers and posters, social network buzz and web presence will also be used to increase curiosity about the campaign. Go to www.tscpl.org or www.geekthelibrary.org to learn more ways to get active and show support for our library.

As the economic downturn slowly recovers, millions of Americans are turning to the library for educational opportunities, job‐searching resources and entertainment.

The Geek the Library campaign has been made available to Topeka and Shawnee County Library through the State Library of Kansas.
