Book lovers will pick from for nearly 100,000 books on September 14, 15 and 16, at the Agricultural Hall at the Kansas Expocentre during the Friends of the Library Book Sale.
Traditional genres, like biography, arts, romance, mystery and children’s books, are priced at $1 or $2. A Premium Section (special edition, signed by author or like-new books) offers more value, with prices ranging from $3-$20.
The sale opens on Friday from 6pm-9pm to members of Friends of the Library, but if you buy a membership at the door for $20, you can get first pick over classic and the latest books, vintage records and favorite tapes, popular DVDs and CDs.
Saturday(9am-5pm) and Sunday(10am-5pm) are free admission days. The bargains get better as the selection becomes picked-over, so it’s important to keep coming back, especially if you’re a book hound. Sunday is a Bag Day, which means all the books that you can fit into a grocery sack (provided) are yours for $5/bag, excluding the Premium Section.
Book sale proceeds are donated back to the library for programs such as summer reading.
“Each book a person buys at the Friends Book Sale helps us put a new book in the hands of children and teens enrolled in our summer reading program,” Linda Hayse, Friends board president, said. “The book sale is a wonderful opportunity to become a Friends member and be a part of an organization that offers members-only activities as well as member discounts all year long in our Chandler Booktique.”
The Friends of the Library were able to contribute $100,000 to the library’s programs, services and collections in 2011 as a result of efforts of member volunteers who collect, sort and sell books in their store, Bag Day sales, half-price days and the annual September sale.
