One less thing you’ll have to shop for: download music from your library.
This new service allows you to download songs from the Sony Music catalog to your computer or portable media device. Browse hundreds of thousands of song titles with new ones being added every day. Listen, download and never worry about buyer’s remorse; simply delete any tracks you don’t like and try again.
Customers can download up to three music tracks per week. Once the file is downloaded it never expires.
This service, called Freegal Music Service, is accessible here using your library card. Or look for the “Free Music Download” link under Find Stuff in the navigation of www.tscpl.org.
“Libraries don’t traditionally have a reputation for being epicenters of acoustic coolness. While we have a diverse music collection, Freegal fulfills the need for our tech customers,” Librarian Scarlett Fisher-Herreman said. “When you use your Digital Branch Library, it’s open 24/7.”
Freegal is both Mac- and PC-compatible and works with any mp3 player, including iPod.
Our library is the first library in the state to use this service.

Your Freegal Music Service is a fantastic addition to TSCPL.
It opens up a great amount of diverse music that your library
members might never get to witness. I look forward to logging
on every Monday to see what songs are available. My only suggestion
would be to allow members to download complete releases but, no real
complaints. Kudos to the library and it’s staff!

I tried to sign into the Freegal music service and was advised my card is illegal. I used the card just moments ago to request a book. And I confirmed that the number and password were correct. Do I need to get a Freegal card?

I believe that this makes the Topeka Library in the country. There aren’t that many libraries that allows their patrons to download music as well. This makes it so important that the library be used to its fullest extent. As times get hard it will be the library that will be an oasis for those who has the wherewithall and those who do not.

I just heard about downloading music from the library. I am so “jazzed”, not my favorite word, but I love jazz. Anyway, I am thrilled to find the amount of music available. I will be using this service often. Thank you so much to TSCPL.

I am trying to log in – it asks for a pin? I do not have a pin (that I see) on my library card? Can you help me?

Dear carma, your pin is usually the last four digits of your phone number on record at the library. Does that help?
