October is American Humane Association’s Adopt-a-Dog Month, and the Library is acting as a collection point for donations for our local shelter, Helping Hands Humane Society.

During the month of October, boxes will be placed in the Library’s rotunda, and customers may place items they wish to donate to the shelter in these collection boxes. Some of the items needed are paper towels, stuffed animal toys, grooming supplies, blankets, pillows, collars, leashes, and office supplies. A complete list may be found here: http://www.hhhstopeka.org/docs/Wish_List.pdf

If you are thinking about adopting a dog, here are some things that new pet can be:

1. an exercise buddy

2. a best friend for you and your family

3. a fuzzy face to greet you when you come home

4. a constant companion

5. a partner in agility competitions or animal-assisted therapy

Stop by our Pets neighborhood for more books and DVDs on owning and caring for dogs.

Consider adopting a dog this October and/or donating some items that will help our local shelter!
