May 1-7, 2011, is the American Human Association’s Be Kind to Animals Week. If you are one of those people who like to pet your dog, cuddle with you cat, preen you parrot, or just generally love your pets, you’ll be happy to know that this event has been celebrated every year since 1915. This week is used to promote humane treatment of animals and to celebrate the role that animals play in our lives. According to the association, there are many ways that people can be kind to animals throughout the year. Here’s what they suggest:

1. Speak out for animals

2. Report any animal abuse

3. Appreciate wildlife

4. Adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue

5. Take care of your pet

If you want more information about taking care of your pets come to the Library and browse our selection of books in the Pets Neighborhood. If you want to read more about Be Kind to Animals Week here is the site: http://www.americanhumane.org/interaction/programs/be-kind-to-animals-week/

And remember, always be kind to our animals!
