Welcome to the May 5th edition of the Non-profit and Fundraising Blog.  Please feel free to submit any questions to me, or make a Reference Appointment http://www.tscpl.org/reference-appointment/ and I’ll be happy to visit with you face -to-face.

As an affiliate of the Foundation Center since 1975, we have a large variety of resources, that can help you in planning to become a non-profit, managing a non-profit, and finding funds to keep it going.

The two main Dewey numbers, which are in both the Circulating Collection, and in the Non-profit Funding Center, are 361.7 (for funding resources, primarily) and 658.15224 (Non-profit management) – although you can find examples of either in both numbers, plus others.

The book which has been published the longest in the non-profit field, for grantmaker information, is the Foundation Directory (Ref 060 FOU), which contains the top 10,000 grantmakers in the United States by amount given.  It is supplemented by the Foundation Directory, Part 2, containing the next 10,000 top foundations, and both are supplemented by a semi-annual  update.  We have the online version, called the Foundation Directory Online, and is available for in-house use only, on every public  computer. This contains the top 100,000 foundations, with all of their missions, limitations, trustees, assets, and procedure for applying, in an easy to use format, which, when in the  foundation record, can easily be printed off, or emailed to the patron directly from the record.

As always, feel free to contact me at 785-580-4555, or 785-580-4683 (voicemail); or email me at jimparato@tscpl.org .
