Library Programs Coming to the Community Centers

This October we began of a suite of fabulous library programs in community centers. Have you attended one yet? Leave a comment about your thoughts and what you’d like to see as far as programming at the centers.

kids_computers_communitycenterTeens and young adults define their career paths during How to Score the Perfect Job. 4- to 5-year-old kids learn the building blocks of reading during fun and informative pre-K programs, like School Readiness and Pajama Storytime. Expect more programs focused on genealogy, cooking and the arts starting in December. Find a community center near you.

“We’ll be spreading it around,” said Thad Hartman, Community Services manager. “Eight library classes for teens and adults will rotate through the centers, so once a month that center’s customers will have a new library program to attend and enjoy.” Those who loved the previous month’s program and want to relive it can either come to the library or find it at another center, he added. Velma K. Paris Community Center will bus folks who register for library programs at that center to the library temporarily until the center receives new computers in 2014. Shawnee North will also receive computers at that time.

The rest of the community centers saw upgrades to computers last May. Computer users logged almost 4,000 hours in the first three months. “We continue to see new users coming into the centers specifically to use the new computers,” said Randy Luebbe, Parks and Recreation.

Here’s a quick glimpse of Community Center programs in late October and November.
