10 standouts in 10 areas (plus one!) add up to the 10th edition of Family Tree Magazine’s 101 Best Web Sites, a well organized and annotated list of recommended web sites for genealogists.

My only complaint is that while they list the pricey subscription cost for Ancestry.com and complain about the high cost, they forget to mention that in many places, including Topeka, you can USE ANCESTRY.COM FOR FREE AT THE LIBRARYthrough our library’s subscription. (Ancestry.com is available for free through in-library use only.) If you can overlook this major oversight in the article, the list of recommended web sites is quite good and whether you are seriously researching your family history or just have a passing interest in genealogy, these are the places you should be checking out online.

Of special interest in this year’s list are the 10 Best Cutting Edge Web Sites and the  10 Best Virtual Library Web Sites.

Did you discover any useful web sites in this list? What are your favorite web sites for genealogical, local or family history research?
