If you love to garden, then you probably have container gardens as well. I love to use container gardens as they provide me the flexibility to try different plants that otherwise I could not grow. A new book, The Container Gardener’s Bible by Joanna K. Harrison is quite good. There are many stunning photographs of different plants to try. This book also provides a step-by-step guide to conbining plants that I would not have even thought about.
Along with the photographs is a 50 page directory of all different flowers as well as shrubs, trees, bulbs and even vegetables. The one part of the book that I loved was the chapter on preparation and planting. This chapter illustrated in great detail the different kinds of containers that can be used for different plants. There are even hints and tips for using all the different kinds of plant containers. For instance, I have a an old hollowed out tree stump that I think is unsightly. Harrison’s idea is to plant flowers within the stump. I am not sure what flowers I will plant there but I think that is a great idea.
So, if you are looking for some great ideas for container gardening this year, check out this book at the library and let me know what you think. Happy gardening.
