Traveling With Your Pet

The 13th edition of Traveling With Your Pet: the AAA PetBook, was published earlier this year and has all the updated info you need to help you plan a winter road trip with your cat or dog.  Here are some highlights:

  • a list of emergency animal clinics in the U.S. with contact info.
  • where you can find dog parks and other pet-friendly places (National Public Lands and other attractions) in the U.S. and Canada.
  • 13,000 AAA-rated hotels and campgrounds listed geographically by state with info about lodgings’ pet policies and details such as recreation, dining, and amenities.  If you’re looking for a quality place to stay that allows pets, review this section and save time on research.  Also good to have for last minute lodging decisions.
  • a handy checklist of what to take (bottled water, food and water dishes, treats, medications, first-aid kit, litter supplies, plastic bags for dog waste, etc.), which is especially helpful for someone new to traveling with a pet.

And there’s still time to enter the AAA PetBook photo contest!  Deadline for submission is November 30, 2011.  Winning entries will be featured in the 2012 edition of Traveling with Your Pet.  Good luck!

As a Public Services Specialist, I actively promote the Travel and Pets neighborhoods, coordinate nature-themed programs for adults and families, and serve on the Big Read planning committee. Outdoor photography, birdwatching, discovering new hiking trails, and reading nature writing and travelogues about Alaska are some of my hobbies. Peter Matthiessen's Shadow Country is my all-time favorite novel.
