Fall Gardening

fall garden resizedAt our house fall is a time of reflection – “should I have bought those delphiniums?” (for the record, no), rejection – “no more daylilies!”, and redirection – “yes, I know we’ve moved the hydrangeas three times already but this time will be different.” So for several days our yard hosts a fruit-basket-upset with heaps of dirt, gaping holes, uncoiled hose, and orphan plants because we inevitably forget THE MASTER PLAN.  And oh yes, tempers are frayed, curses are muttered, and we vow to never, never play fall fruit-basket-upset again.

Fall is a good time to transplant and divide deciduous shrubs and perennials as well as adding new plants to your landscape. Cooler fall temperatures are great for the gardener and the still warm soil is great for the plants. These new additions to our Lawn & Garden Neighborhood offer terrific tips and tempting plants so you can have your own fall frenzy of transplanting and planting (just don’t forget THE MASTER PLAN!)
