WALK KANSAS has a terrific premise — Co–workers, family members, friends and neighbors form teams of 6 people who will track minutes of physical activity and food choices during the 8-week challenge. But what if you haven’t found a team to join yet? You can come to the library!

Local fitness trainer and educator Chris Omni is hosting a Walk Kansas Kickoff from 2-3 pm, Saturday, March 10 in Marvin Auditorium Room 101C.

How does Walk Kansas work?

For 8 weeks from March 18 – May 12, team members track their minutes of physical activity and food choices including fruit and vegetables.

Teams choose their goals for physical activity. Challenge 1 meets basic physical activity guidelines of 2 ½ hours (150 minutes) of moderate/vigorous activity per person each week. (If each member met this goal the team would, collectively, walk 423 miles or the distance across the state.) Challenge 2 requires each member to log 6 hours of physical activity each week. (If this goal is met the team would, collectively, walk 1200 miles or the distance around the perimeter of the state.)

Walking isn’t the only activity that counts. Read the participant information to learn about moderate and vigorous activities that count, and strengthening exercises. Just a reminder – any activity you report should be performed for a minimum of 10 consecutive minutes.
