Marilyn Ault

Supporting a good cause is like breathing to Marilyn Ault – you just have to do it.

She lists the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library among her causes, which also include Let’s Help, Inc., Marian Clinic and Doorstep of Topeka.

“I love the library,” she said. “I asked myself ‘what Topeka treasure needs my support. What treasure really gives back to my community?’”

Marilyn, a regular visitor, said she’s impressed with the staff and the welcoming nature of the library when it came to teens hanging out after school.

“Not every library is like that,” she said. “Kids choose to come here.”

She and her family have been coming to the library for 25 years. Recently, she decided to use our Monthly Giving Program, using electronic funds transfer, to support the facility she so values.

Each month, she has a fixed sum transferred from her bank account to The Library Foundation, which supports the library’s programs, services and facilities. It’s a safe and convenient way to give back.

Her gift is undesignated, and she said she’s happy knowing it will be used for whatever the library deems fit.

While books bring her into the library, Marilyn said she’s glad the library is used as an information resource in a much larger capacity. She says she appreciates the service to the community that our computer and Internet access provides.

“Providing the Internet to youth and adults is really a terrific resource. It reduces the digital divide.”

An avid reader, Marilyn does buy books from time to time. But when she is finished, she donates them to the library too.
