Rock On! Art of Air Guitar Championship Held at the Library

Turn up the volume, dudes! Topeka’s Air Guitar Championship will be held Sept. 2 from 5-7pm at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.

Topeka Magazine staff will be staging the air guitar competition and photo shoot for anyone wanting to show off. Stop by the library’s rotunda for photos, fun and perhaps some celebrity sightings during this week’s ArtWalk. Dress up and strike a pose and feel good about contributing to the experience. Donations will be accepted to support live music events at the library. One lucky contestant has a chance to win prize money and reach celebrity status in Topeka Magazine.

A preliminary round will be held between 5 and 6:30 Sept. 2. The competition finale takes the stage at 6:30pm in The Edge, east hallway of the library, where the best of the best will face off in front of judges and an audience. The grand champ will earn ultimate braggin’ rights, a custom air guitar, $50 in prize money and a photo spread in Topeka Magazine.

Judges will be gauging talent in categories including air attitude, embodying the spirit of a real music legend, OMG (meaning you make the judges say oh, my gosh), and technical superiority.

The Art of Air Guitar is a benefit for live music programs at the library. Topeka Magazine will be taking mock cover shots for anyone who comes in that Friday afternoon. Donations will be accepted. Your small contribution to The Library Foundation at these events helps ensure we can keep on “rockin’” at the library.

The championship coincides with the release of Topeka Magazine’s fall edition, which can be picked up at the Sept. 2 event.
