Plan now to attend a panel discussion featuring some very engaging local people who will tell their life stories about challenges, barriers, and personal choices that have led them to financial stability. This is a kick-off program to our Women & Money Series* that will be hosted here at the Library on Thursday evenings, beginning September 8th and running through October 20th. This program is open to everyone – women and men alike.
The panel discussion will include
- a young couple who are just starting out
- a couple who have been married for 18 years and made some career changes and other major life decisions
- a retired couple managing well on modest incomes
- a local business woman who has successfully found a way to work for herself.
This class will originate from TSCPL and will be broadcast live via I-TV to Kansas State University (Leasure Hall – Manhattan KS), Pioneer Memorial Library (Colby KS), Garden City CC (Garden City, KS), Hays Public Library (Hays KS), and Dodge City Public Library (Dodge City KS).
*The Women and Money Series is open to women only. The reason this is a “women’s only” series goes back to the original concept and development of a financial series for women in Topeka. It was developed by HCCI in the early 80s using a model from AARP that targeted women – especially those entering the workforce for the first time after divorce or death of a spouse. The basic premise was that women learn best in small breakout groups and are more likely to develop a support system with other women in the classes after the classes end. The curriculum specifically targets women who are either heads-of-household or making major long-range decisions about family finances. The series is basically money management developed by women for women.
