Okay.  Let’s be honest, I’m not a huge musical fan.  Why? I have no clue.  I find it strange, though, because I practically enjoy every musical I watch.  Maybe it’s due to the fact that I usually have the soundtrack stuck in my head for weeks after I’ve watched one.  And when I have music stuck in my head, I have to sing and dance which eventually drives my coworkers, friends, and family all insane.  So I guess that’s why I watch them sparingly.

One of the great things about musicals, though, is that they have no boundaries when it comes to subject content and musical style.  This genre covers it all: serial killers, teen issues, dancing animals, sports, politics, cabarets, war, and so much more set to psychedelic rock, popular ballads, show tunes, and even a little hip-hop every now and then.

I have compiled a list of my favorite top five musicals below.  If you haven’t seen any of them, you should check out a copy from the library.  But what I really want to know is… What’s in your Top 5?

1. Moulin Rouge!

2. Cry Baby

3. Tommy

4. Hair

5. Newsies
