On this day sixteen years ago, Oprah Winfrey launched her book club and selected Jacquelyn Mitchard’s The Deep End of the Ocean as her first pick. I don’t think Oprah was aware at that moment that her choices over the years would influence America’s reading habits so aggressively and that any endorsement by her would transform little known titles into bestselling hits. Therefore, in honor of her book club’s anniversary I have selected my top five favorite reads from her list. Don’t forget to let me know what you’ve enjoyed by posting a comment below.
1. The Road by Cormac McCarthy
2. The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
3. East of Eden by John Steinbeck
4. Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts
5. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

My favorites are Poisonwood Bible and Where the Heart Is. Actually, those are the only two I have read from Oprah’s list.
But after I read Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, I checked out her book Prodigal Summer, which I LOVED also.
