Library patron Jason Whisnant and I recently had an excellent music conversation over email.
I asked him to suggest bands and songs for the rest of us to enjoy. Here are the selections that he shared with me:
The Stone Roses: Very underappreciated band; the song “Love Spreads” is one of the rare songs where everything clicks.
The Eels: Most people know a few songs from the soundtracks of the Shrek movies, but the album “Beautiful Freak” is incredibly inspired
Liz Phair: WhiteChocolateSpaceEgg.
Veruca Salt: Amazing band that was plenty popular when they were new, but seems to have faded from memory. (available through interlibrary loan)
And for some newer stuff:
Silversun Pickups: Love the song “The Royal We”.
30 Seconds to Mars: Showing my age here, but the first time I heard Jared Leto sing was when he was singing “I Wanna Be Sedated” on an episode of “My So-called Life”. I’m glad he’s making music.
Metric: Pretty good band, amazing live. (available through interlibrary loan)
Broken Bells: This band is available on Freegal through TSCPL.
A big thank you to Jason for the recommendations. Please keep the comments coming!
