Facebook manualIt’s rare that I find a manual that’s been as helpful to me in learning about a new gadget that I’ve purchased.

If you’re like many folks, you use an iPod or iPhone on a daily basis.  These handy Missing Manuals provide some much-needed extra instructions that don’t come in the box.

For example, did you know that you can set your iPhone to use caps lock?  Neither did I, but there’s a setting for it in the Missing Manual.

Or, if you’re a sometimes-insomniac you could let the iPod put you to sleep by using the Sleep Timer function under Extras—Alarms—Sleep Timer.  Choose a 15, 30, 60, 90, or 120 minute setting.

The Missing Manuals books are set up in a format that makes them easy to read and follow.  The chapters are short and digestible, without the use of fancy language.

There are Tips at the bottom of some pages to go into more depth on a given topic.  Diagrams are used to help those of us who learn better by looking at a visual aid.

Of particular interest to many readers are the sections on playing iTunes and iPod videos on your TV, and burning your video collection to DVD (Chapter 8, iPod The Missing Manual).
