The Danger of Silence in Arrows of Rain

Content

arrows of rainOn the coast of Africa a young woman runs into the ocean and drowns. Bukuru who is considered a madman, tried to help the young woman, but the local police charge him with her death. In court Bukuru accuses the armed forces of rape and murder, and despite the danger to himself also claims that the dictator of the country is also a rapist and murderer.

Set in the fictional African country of Madia where any criticism of the dictator could result in death, Bukuru only momentarily survives because the western media has picked up his story. With only a little time left, Bukuru writes about his life and the choices made by both himself and his countrymen in Arrows of Rain.

The author Okey Ndibe is from Nigeria which shares some similarities with fictional Madia. This deftly written novel is an examination of morality and is also a well plotted story especially about Bukuru’s life. Ndibe is also the author of Foreign Gods.
