Ron Lopez Reese remembers that it was the combination of a class at school and a trip to Silver Dollar city that got him interested in Carry Nation. The class at school was about Kansas history, and at Silver Dollar City he went to a stage show where they reenacted one of Nation’s famous saloon raids.
At the June 10th meeting of the Prairie Land Collectors Club Reese displayed several items of Carry Nation Memorabilia that he has collected over the years. He has spent a lot of time studying the details of her life, including trips to see the house she lived in at Eureka Springs, Arkansas and the one she lived in at Medicine Lodge, Kansas.
The next Prairie Land Collectors Club’s next meeting is Monday July 8th at 6:30 p.m–every month they feature a display and presentation from a local collector like Reese. The public is welcome to attend. Come early if you want to participate in the social time, which starts at 6 p.m.
The meeting is at the Library in the Marvin Auditorium room 101B.
If you would like to learn more about Carrie Nation the Library has several items in our collection about her life. The Kansas Museum of History also has a fun and informative online exhibit about Carrie Nation. I took the “How Well Do You Know Carry Nation” quiz and I was surprised at how much I didn’t know about her!
