This time of year, Hollywood typically launches many of its best films, hoping to catch the attention of Oscar voters. These potential Oscar-winning movies are mostly aimed at adults more than teens, as they tackle broad social/political themes. But the young adult crowd can’t be ignored, and they still have a few new movies to look forward to at theaters, and more to be released on DVD and Blu-ray. Here is a sampling.
Twilight Saga: Beaking Dawn Part 2, in theaters November 16th.
After the birth of Renesmee, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi. (The last of the Twilight film series. Unless . . .)
Red Dawn, in theaters November 21st.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, in theaters December 14th.
A curious Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of Dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug. (The first of a trilogy)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1, on DVD and Blu-ray November 6th.
Batman has not been seen for ten years. A new breed of criminal ravages Gotham City, forcing 55-year-old Bruce Wayne back into the cape and cowl. But, does he still have what it takes to fight crime in a new era? (Note: this is an animated film, not the major motion picture that was released last summer)
The Amazing Spider-man, on DVD and Blu-ray November 9th.

The Dark Knight Rises, on DVD and Blu-ray December 4th.
Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy. (Note: this is the film that came out the last summer)
Total Recall, on DVD and Blu-ray December 18th.
A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall – a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led – goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.
