It’s a Different World in The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack

The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled JackWerewolves terrorize London’s East End and the legend of Spring Heeled Jack seems to have come to life as young women are terrorized by a strange creature. Animals are genetically engineered for specific tasks. Strange and wonderful inventions allow for flight and other innovations. Something is not quite right in Victorian England- at least not the history the world is familiar with.

Sir Richard Francis Burton, the famous explorer, and his assistant Algernon Charles Swinburne, the poet, are hired to investigate the werewolves and Spring Heeled Jack. It’s not going to be that easy especially since Burton is now a man of two destinies- the one he’s known for in history and this other new dangerous life.

In The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack by Mark Hodder famous figures from the past suddenly have entirely different lives and histories. This novel adroitly moves the characters into their new roles in history as it is finally revealed what happened to change history. This is the first in a new series featuring Burton and Swinburne. The book that follows is The Curious Case of the Clockwork Man, with The Expedition to the Mountains of the Moon due out in January 2012.
