Fables is a marvelous read for anyone interested in the old storybook characters turned slightly on their heads and given a mature audience rating.
I’ve recently started reading more graphic novels because I have the attention span of my one-year-old.
The first book in the series focuses on the suspected murder of Rose Red in Fabletown (a subsection of New York inhabited by story book characters disguised as regular folks).
Bigby Wolf is investigating her disappearance after her boyfriend discovers her apartment tossed and spattered in blood.
Snow, the second in command in Fabletown, and also Red’s sister, inserts herself as second to investigate the grisly scene.
Who would want to murder Rose Red and why? Is it Bluebeard, known to be her secret lover, or Jack, her current flame? Could it be her not so loving sister, Snow?
What enfolds is a twisting plot that ensnares a reader to want to continue reading book after book in the Fables series.
