If you ever thought, and I’m sure you do, that being a parent is hard; imagine doing it with multiple personality disorder, otherwise known as Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). In Season One of United States of Tara actress Toni Collette illuminates the bizarre home life of Tara Gregson, a woman with three clearly defined personalities besides her own. Well, at least three we know about.

Tara is an artist, and a good one at that, when Alice the 1950’s housewife personality isn’t taking over the house or trying to make babies with Tara’s husband Max (played by John Corbett). And then there’s her other personality, Buck.  Buck is a Vietnam vet who smokes, drinks, loves guns, and really loves the ladies.  A third personality “T” pops in who is eternally 16, headstrong, and rejects every rule put down. All in all, it’s rather complicated at home. This HBO show makes for great entertainment and I eagerly await Season 2 which should be released this summer on DVD.

Toni ColletteThroughout her career, Toni Collette has chosen some pretty interesting and entertaining films. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, this striking actress found herself opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in Emma and Cameron Diaz in In her Shoes. Toni took on the role of troubled, single mom in both The Sixth Sense with Haley Joel Osment and About a Boy with Nicholas Hoult. Muriel’s Wedding, which came early in her career, was her breakout role as an unloved daughter trying to find her self-worth through ABBA and daydreams of her own wedding.
