Kathy gives Diana a little culinary coaching in this edition of All Booked Up. Holidays are coming, and you too may have some meal planning needs. Two new titles Kathy highly recommends – and that have made headlines – are Barefoot Contessa Foolproof: Recipes You Can Trust and The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook. Watch the video.
Ina Garten, aka the Barefoot Contessa, provides recipes that work every time, hence the use of the word “foolproof” in her title. Whether you are looking for home-style cooking (the 1770 House Meatloaf with garlic sauce) or a dish with a more international flair (Osso Boco), you’ll find recipes that don’t take too long and look and taste delightful.
Deb Perelman, a New York blogger who creates big hits in her tiny kitchen, consistently ranks first or second in food blogs for her Smitten Kitchen blog. Her long-awaited cookbook has been much hyped in the media and is certainly deserving of praise, Kathy said. Perelman’s blog was the impetus for the book; she features some favorites from her blog, but the majority of the recipes in her cookbook are new.
Both cookbooks feature fantastic photography and offer culinary tips and tricks. Both authors may have you grocery shopping for ingredients you’ve never purchased before or maybe never heard of, which can be both exciting and daunting. But, don’t let that keep you from creating a dish from one of these wonderful books. Check them out at the library.
