The Big Read is an effort to encourage our community to be productive, civically active and healthy. Good readers make that happen. Join your library and citizens across the county for this community reading experience and help combat the decline of civic, social, cultural and economic engagement that occurs when people spend less time reading.
Despite the fact that the book is a slim 200 pages, The Great Gatsby is still considered a touchstone of modern American fiction.
Eric Melin, film critic for Kansas First News, is critical of the 1974 version of The Great Gatsby. Read and leave your comment about this or other adaptations of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel. Melin teases us with a few facts about the new Gatsby film coming out in May.
In February, Topeka Metro will offer copies of “The Great Gatsby” on Topeka Metro fixed route buses. Patrons are invited to take a book, read it, share it with someone else and then return it to the bus so that it may be enjoyed by others.
