1. Hermit crabs can live to 6 to 15 years, but many live only to 6 to 12 months.

2. Hermit crabs will eat apples, grapes, cheese, steak, and meatballs.

3. A hermit crab with a purple claw may snap a pencil in two.

4. Hermit crabs have 5 pairs of legs. This means they have 10 legs!

Did you know?

• The ornate box turtle is the state reptile for Kansas.
•  When frightened, box turtles retract their head, tail, and limbs into their shell and clamp it shut.
• If you look carefully at the scutes on the carapace, you will see annual growth rings. Count them up and you have a pretty good idea how many years old it is.
•  Box turtles may live more than 100 years.

• A rabbit can’t walk or run, but they can hop very well. In fact, their legs are so strong, they can hop as fast as 20 miles per hour.
• A rabbit can learn to recognize their name and a few other words.
• Female rabbits are called does and male rabbits called bucks – just like deer. Also, baby rabbits are called a kit or kitten like cats. But, most people just called a baby rabbit a bunny.

A tagged Monarch butterfly was released near Ontario, Canada and was recovered 4 months later in Angangueo, Mexico. The straight line distance between these two sites is 2,133 miles.

Facts about ball pythons-

• There are 26 species of pythons; the ball python is one type in this reptile class of animals. Pythons are constrictors, which means they wrap their bodies around their prey and squeeze them until they suffocate.

• Ball pythons are one of the smallest of all pythons, and they only grow to about three or four feet long.In Europe, the ball python is referred to as the royal python.

• In the United States the name ball python was given to them because they curl themselves into a ball with their head in the center when they are nervous or upset.
