Accepting Submissions for the Hidden Edge Teen Zine

Are you into writing, photography, drawing?  Do you want to be published?

We are taking submissions for our new teen zine The Hidden Edge.  Teens 12-18 can submit their poems, photography, drawings, and experts from short stories and essays.  You can pick up submission forms at the Children’s and Edge service desks, or online Here. You can submit as many works as you want, but we reserve the right to decide what is published.

Deadline date is march 28th.

Submit Your Work to The Hidden Edge, our New Teen ‘Zine

We are looking for original poetry, short stories, graphics and photography. You must be between the ages of 12 and 18.

Fill out the form below to submit your work to this exciting new publication made by teens for teens. All submissions will be considered, but the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library reserves the right to decline submissions to The Hidden Edge based on length or quality.

The ‘zine will come out near the end of the year. Those whose submissions are accepted will be invited to a party in The Edge (TBD) where they will receive a copy of the first edition of The Hidden Edge.

Attach up to five files in this form. Text files should be a Word document or Rich Text Document. Images and graphics should be jpeg, pdf or tiff files, no larger than 2MB. If your file(s) exceeds 2MB, burn it to a disk and bring it to the Youth Services desk for submission or mail it to The Hidden Edge c/o Lisa Brien 1515 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604. Note: We will not mail submitted CDs back to you.

Johnny Turnbull and 199 other kids have been orphaned on a long term space flight.  With their parents gone, the ship computer, otherwise known as Mother, takes care of them and guides them to their original destination; Orbis.  The children dream of what their new home will be like, but when they arrive they discover an unpleasant truth.  They are to be indentured servants and must work off the cost of their passage.

As Johnny and the others begin to adjust to their new life, Johnny discovers a unique ability.  He is a Softwire.  He can communicate with any computer just with his mind, and he is the first human to have this ability.  Johnny is just getting used to the idea when he discovers something else.  There is a virus in the computer that runs everything on the planet.  Will Johnny use his ability to save his new home? Can he?
