Book Art for Schools

Jeanne Drewes, Preservation librarian at the Library of Congress, will teach you how to teach others! “Book Art for Schools” is a workshop that shows you how to make five different book forms. You can then share your knowledge with students, scout troops, friends, family, anyone! Join us Tuesday, April 26, 6 – 8:30 pm, in the Marvin Auditorium, 101A.

Since books are “containers of information”, this is a great workshop for art and English teachers, children’s librarians, or anyone interested in books and how they are made. You can use your books to tell or record your own stories. Materials will be provided. Register now by calling 580-4515 – space is limited.

This workshop is part of National Preservation Week (April 24 – 30), organized by the American Library Association, the Institute for Museum and Library Services, and the Library of Congress.

Family Treasures

Jeanne Drewes, Preservation librarian at the Library of Congress, will teach you how to care for your most valued treasures. There are lots of things to do – and not to do – to protect your family’s history.

Post Civil War medals and memorabilia

Bring an example of your family photos, clothing, books or toys (no firearms, please) and learn what to do to protect them from deterioration. You can preserve your family’s legacy for future generations by doing some very simple things. Jeanne Drewes, preservation librarian at the Library of Congress, and other experts, show you how.  Experts include Charity Rouse and Jeanne Mithen, Special Collections librarians at TSCPL, Sherry Best, Alice C. Sabatini Gallery Director, at TSCPL, Whitney Baker, conservator at the University of Kansas.  Jeanne is the Chief Binding and Collections Care Division Program Manager of the Mass Deacidification Preservation Directorate at the Library of Congress.
